Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday | Nashville Events

Tax Free Weekend is upon us once again! This coming weekend, August 3-5, Tax Free Weekend will occur state-wide. During this three-day event,any individual can make a tax-free purchase. However, items purchased for use by a trade or business are not exempt.

Items that are excluded from tax this coming weekend include clothing items under $100 each, excluding jewelry, bags and sports and recreation equipment. School supply items under $100 per item are also exempt, this category excluding printers, CDs and printer ink and lastly, computers under $1,500 are tax-free, excluding PDAs,electronic readers such as Kindle’s and Nook’s and software and parts. Laptops and tablets are tax-exempt, though. The tax-exemption applies to items purchases in-store, over the phone, online and via mail, when applicable.

Tax-Free Weekend was established in Tennessee in 2006, with the first weekend occurring August 4-6, saving Tennesseans about $15 million! It has occurred from the first Friday through Sunday in August since them, saving Tennesseans about $8-10 million each holiday weekend.

Be sure to hit the shops this weekend! Tax Free exemptions begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday the 3rd and are relinquished at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday the 5th. For more information about the sales tax holiday, visit the official website here.
