The Gulch is adding another luxurious restaurant to its repertoire!
Miranda Whitcomb Pontes, the restaurateur behind Burger Up, is opening a new restaurant in the Gulch with chef Sal Avila. Prima will be the newest addition to the ground floor of the Terrazzo condo and retail development on Division Street.
Prima was developed by Jim Lewis, owner of Community Hospitality, and features a Vegas-like, West Coast style. The 8,700 square foot holds 200-plus with a main dining room and two private rooms that can sit 8 diners apiece.
The main dining room has elegant banquettes and booths that are upholstered with fabric. Hovering over the dining room is a chandelier with 1,800 bulbs, designed by British artists Bruce Munro. The bar will be able to sit 24 patrons where a single television will be faced away from the dining area.
The first private room is on the ground floor with glass walls that has a view of the huge, modern open kitchen. The second private room sits above the restaurant next to a massive wine room that can hold over 3,000 bottles. The restaurant even allows for private storage for individuals that want to keep their favorite wines on hand.
As for the menu, Sal Avila mentioned his inspiration behind the menu was his father going through chemotherapy treatment and the concepts of healthy cooking. “Everything I discovered pointed to having some variety in your diet” he said.
Plates are sized for sharing and the interesting menu reflects a pass around the table style of eating. Avila promises that the menu at Prima will be constantly evolving, changing seasonally, and hopefully in the future emphasizing more of Avila’s Latino heritage. Chef Avila’s favorite dish on the menu is the braised leg of rabbit served with cerigniola olives and Calabrian chilies.
Prima is located at 700 12th Ave. South #101 Nashville, TN 37203. Their hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
