News for Parking Downtown

Tired of paying to park every time you’re downtown?  Looking for a cheap option for parking?  Metro Council’s “Drive Green, Park Free” will soon allow “green” drivers a free pass on downtown parking. Those who drive cars that meet environmental federal standards, such as hybrids and certain fuel-efficient compact cars, can pay $10 annually to park at downtown meters for free!  This will begin on July 1st.  The idea behind the bill is to encourage people to buy cars with fewer carbon emissions.  The bill was introduced to implement plans recommended by the Mayors Green Ribbon Committee.  Unfortunately this won’t exactly free up parking spaces it will mainly make the environment more “Green.”  So, although it might take a few thousand dollars to get that “green” car, you may eventually save money and stress by being eligible for a Free parking pass!  Check out The Tennessean for more information!
