Nashville’s oldest farmers’ market has been around since the 1800s in various locations. Today, the produce stands, flea market, and shops inside the Market House call 900 Rosa Pars Boulevard home. NFM is not your average farmers’ market. It is open 7 days a week selling everything from local produce to fresh meats, hand-crafted bread to jams and honey, flowers and plants and even dog treats! Walk through all the mouthwatering stands in the Farm Sheds and come inside the Market House for a food-court atmosphere featuring delicious restaurants and specialty food shops.
The first neighborhood farmers’ market for the 12South community will be opening produce stands May 24th, continuing every Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:30 through October. It will be located at 300 Granny White Pike in Sevier Park. Good Food for Good People plans to bring organic and conventional produce, meats, local cheeses, baked goods, gourmet dog snacks, pasta, local honey, and more from farms within 150 miles of Nashville. Special events will take place the third week of every month, starting with the Mustache May Contest on May 24th – start experimenting with your mustache shapes now!
The Franklin Farmers’ Market is open year-round with seasonal produce, delicious baked goods, fresh flowers, dairy goods, and tender meats in one of downtown Franklin’s coolest warehouse buildings. The market is open 8 am to 1 pm every Saturday from May through October, and 9 am to noon every Saturday November through April. Enjoy live music and shop from over 70 family farms from Middle Tennessee.
The East Nashville Farmers’ Market is open every Wednesday, rain or shine, from May 11 to the end of October. “The East Nashville Market has everything you’re looking for in locally grown food; from grass fed meats to organically raised produce, fresh pastured eggs to artisan hand-crafted cheeses, springtime starter plants to Halloween pumpkins.” The market is located in the grass lot at 210 South 10th Street.
The first Woodbine Farmer’s Market opened less than a year ago, and these farmers’ are excited to come back for round two! Opening May 14th this year, the market will be held at Coleman Park from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday mornings. The change from Tuesdays to Saturdays is in an effort to combat the parking problems encountered last year on Tuesday evenings in the area. Another change this year is the addition of special events every last weekend of the month, starting with Green Market Festival on May 21st, with demonstrations on composting, recycling, and rain barrels.
This year, the Vanderbilt Farmers’ Market will be open every Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, June 2 through October 27. Fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables and locally farmed meat, cheeses, and bread will be sold in Medical Center Plaza across from Langford Auditorium on Vanderbilt’s campus. This Farmers’ market is held in collaboration with NFM, Health Plus, and the Monroe Carroll Jr. Children’s Hospital.
Located at 4601 Charlotte Pike in Richland Park, the West Nashville Farmer’s Market is already open for the 2011 season! From April through November, check out some of Nashville’s favorite local food producers on Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon.
