The Melrose neighborhood in Nashville will soon be home to a new mixed-use development. The Franklin Pike property that was once home to the Melrose Theatre and Melrose Lanes bowling alley is undergoing redevelopment for a mixed-use project, to be called “The Melrose.”
The project is a joint venture of Parkes Development Group and Fulcher Investment Properties. Their proposal from last year included retaining the existing building (the former home of the Melrose Theatre) and reconfiguring it for restaurant, retail and around 5,000 square feet of office space. They also included plans for 214 apartment units to be housed in two additions to the original building and in a separate four story building that is to be constructed behind the existing structure.
On the original building, the site of the former Melrose Lanes, a four-story addition will go up that will have three stories of apartments above ground level restaurant and retail space, with parking garages under and behind the retail space.
The developers included plans for the design, including plans to retain the elements such as the theatre marquee and angled storefronts, and plans to bring back tall, obelisk-shaped signs that are similar in design to those that originally were found in the theater’s parking lot.
