Hopeful Summer Groundbreaking for Green Hills Development Project | Nashville News

A development that has been in the works for the Green Hills neighborhood for quite some time now is hoping to have its groundbreaking sometime this summer.

We blogged about plans for a mixed-use project by Southern Land Co. early last year, and now a year later they are still slowly moving forward with their plans.

The project, a 16-story mixed-use development, will sit on the southeast corner of Hillsboro and Richard Jones roads. Plans for the 16-story project have been submitted with hopes for approval in the next four to six weeks. Previously submitted plans for 22 stories was met with opposition by Green Hills community members, so Southern Land Co. decided to redesign the project at 16 stories.

“As we announced in November, because of the opposition to the 22-story plan, we met with Green Hills community members many times,” he added. “We stopped and listened to community concerns and then reduced the design of the building to 16 stories. As soon as they receive approval from Metro, more in-depth design work will begin for the project.

Southern Land is still working on plans to make improvements to the T-intersection of Hillsboro and Richard Jones roads, on which the southeast corner he project will sit. The company is working with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Metro Public Works Department on that effort.
