from Allen Perry | The best Real Estate coaching call that I ever had was when my coach asked me, “Where do I want my business to be in 20 years?” I said, “Working on retirement, investments, mainly.” His response was, “How do you afford to do that?” I smiled and said, “Well, I have rental properties.” He said, “How many?” Proudly, I said, (as if I’d figured something out), “100 doors.” “Why 100 doors?” he asked. I responded, “I don’t really know; let me think about it.”
That week, I couldn’t stop thinking about that question, and it really brought me to the place of NOT wanting 100 doors, but instead wanting 10 really great properties that paid me the money needed for retirement. It wasn’t the 100 doors and the maintenance of those doors that excited me; it was the passive income.
I was so excited to tell my coach about this, and when I did, he said: “That’s great, but why can’t you be there in 5 years?” I thought, ”Shut the front door…why CAN’T I be there in 5 years?!!” So, that’s my path now, and the goal is to get to these 10 really good income producing properties in the next 5 years. So far I have 4 of these, and I will buy 2 more this year to stay on the path to be done with this by the end of 2024. The goal is not to retire then, but just to have everything in place for when I do.
