Helpful Negotiation Tactics for Today’s Housing Market
If you haven’t heard, Homebuyers are gaining some Negotiation Power in Today’s Market. While it’s not a full-blown Buyer’s Market, Buyers can often ask for a bit more. Whether you’re Buying or Selling, here’s how to prepare for Negotiations:
What Can You Negotiate?
- Sale Price: The most common negotiation. Buyers often seek to adjust the price, especially if affordability is tight.
- Home Repairs: Post-inspection, buyers may request repairs. If sellers decline, they might offer to reduce the price or cover some Closing Costs instead.
- Fixtures: Appliances or furniture can be part of the deal. Buyers might ask for items like the Washer and Dryer, and sellers might agree to leave them behind.
- Closing Costs: Buyers can request Sellers cover some or all Closing Costs, which typically range from 2-5% of the purchase price; this can vary so please check with your Agent.
- Home Warranties: Buyers may ask for a Home Warranty to cover potential post-purchase maintenance. This is usually a low-cost concession for sellers.
- Closing Date: Flexibility on the Closing Date can be negotiated to fit the buyer’s or seller’s timeline.
Negotiation Power is shifting in Today’s Market. Buyers & Sellers, knowing what to expect and how to prepare will ensure a smoother process.
