Green Hills began as a small-scale neighborhood during the 1930s.  It wasn’t until after World War II that residents began moving into the area, attracted by its anticipated business and neighborhood growth.

One of Nashville’s most popular music venues and a must visit for both locals, visitors and tourists alike, The Bluebird Café, is located just past the very popular shopping destinations in the area.  Many important early businesses were located in Green Hills, such as Green Hills Market, one of Nashville’s first supermarkets as well as the Green Hills Theater, a cinema that is no longer in business.

Green Hills is home to the very popular and upscale Mall at Green Hills, hosting a great selection of shops and department stores including Louis Vutton, Tiffany & Co., Michael Kors, Burberry, Macy’s and Nordstrom. Green Hills also has a number of local boutiques and spas, as well as everything the Hill Center Green Hills has to offer; both chain stores and local shops.  Grocery stores Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are newer additions to the area that have made quite an impact with their presence. The Green Hills YMCA is also a popular destination for families throughout the area to get active. Local restaurants like Firefly mix with chains and bars to give the area just about everything one would need.

Most of the neighborhoods in Green Hills are older and more established with a variety of home styles.  Look for these to have large, treed lots. There are also a number of new developments and homes as well as apartments and condo developments with great amenities.  Green Hills offers moderately priced apartments for rent, moderate and pricey older homes to buy, and exclusive new construction. Home prices in Green Hills usually start at or around $300,000 in subdivisions including Sugar Tree and Glen Echo and extend upward to a couple million dollars in exclusive neighborhoods like Abbottsford and Woodmont Estates.
