Shoppers, rejoice! Two of the Nashville area’s most popular shopping destinations, The Mall at Green Hills and the Cool Springs Galleria have announced plans to expand their premises and add new, desirable stores to Middle Tennessee.
In Franklin, the Cool Springs Galleria just received approval to add a 73,700 square foot expansion, including unattached retail buildings north and south of the mall. Construction for this is expected to begin early next year. This would be the first phase of larger plans for expansion.
A second phase, adding more than 53,000 square feet of space in three new stand-alone buildings near the Sears store, is proposed for the summer A third phase would add two 10,000-square-foot buildings near the Macy’s department store entrance on the north side of the mall. No timeline for that construction has been slated.
In Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood, The Mall at Green Hills has proposed an additional 125,000 square feet of retail space in addition to another parking garage. The change involves big changes for Dillard’s, which will be moved to the parking structure current located next to the store. Dillard’s is expected to reopen by 2016 and boast 180,000 square feet. The space currently being taken up by Dillard’s will be transformed into several more retailers and is expected to open by 2018.
A new parking garage is also in the works. The proposed location is off of Cleghorn Avenue and would include the construction f sidewalks to increase walkability and connectivity to the neighborhood.
The board is expected to vote on the proposal November 12.
