You may have heard of the southern meat and three in Franklin, but did you know that each Saturday night they host an authentic Italian five-course meal? That’s right, it may sound a bit odd for a southern meat and three to serve up some delicious Italian but it’s true and you need to try it!
The Cool Cafe in Franklin started hosting, Mangia Nashville each Saturday night earlier this year! Mangia Nashville is a reservation-only five course Italian meal, where diners sit family style at long tables with white tablecloths and enjoy large platters of pasta, salad and bread all passes throughout the tables!
Nick Pelligrino is the brain’s behind it all! After coming back to his restaurant and New York City, he started the Italian Family Dinner! He says, “It’s like a great Italian wedding without the relatives, by the end of the evening, everybody is singing and dancing.”
Mangia Nashville has been a hit so far. The Cool Cafe started serving Saturday night dinner in January and since then, most Saturdays are a sellout. (The meal is a single seating with only 50 spaces available.)
The reason it’s so popular is because it’s a great deal! Through March, the price for five courses is $35. In April, the price will go up to $40 and although they don’t serve alcohol, they permit their guests to bring their own wine!
“The March menu includes rigatoni with beef short-rib Bolognese; spinach-potato gnocchi with pecan basil pesto cream; rosemary lemon chicken and jumbo shrimp scampi.” The menu changes on a monthly basis but one thing remails the same, their famous dessert called zeppole, it’s like puffy doughnut holes or miniature beignets. They arrive hot in a paper bag with sugar — you shake it up before you dig in.
Mangia Nashville takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays at Cool Cafe, 1110 Hillsboro Road, Suite B200, in Franklin. Reservations are required: Call 538-7456 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
