Downtown Franklin may have a new look soon. Rod Heller and partner Jay Franks plan to file paperwork to start an $80 million redevelopment project, called Harpeth Square, that will include more than 200 apartments or condos, a 100 room boutique hotel, retail and restaurant space and a new parking deck.
Heller and Franks have been acquiring land since 2001 in hopes of completing this project, which will be located between Main and Bridge Street and First and Second Avenue. The hotel project is designed after the Planters Inn in Charleston, South Carolina, where the rooms are expected to rent for around $350 a night.
The hotel is expected to cost nearly a third of the overall budget of the development. Heller projects that the development will add 240 permanent jobs to Franklin and will add $170 million spending into the economy within the first 10 years.
There are still many different aspects that have to be fully worked out before the project can be started, inlcuding more details on the hotel.
