Bruce, who spent his college years here in Nashville, decided that he wanted to create a series of small books about cities that combined the tradition almanac, memoir and traveler’s journal into one. He first chose Nashville because it was a city he spent so much time in.
The field guide also has commentary from other local Nashvillians. Fashion designers Matt and Carrie Eddmenson, musicians Jessie Baylin, Courtney Jaye and Thad Cockrell, chef Tandy Wilson, painter Emily Leonard, architect Nick Dryden, photographers from Q Avenue Photo.
The field guide includes everything about Nashville, there are interviews with musicians, artists, politicians, food truckers, outdoorsmen and immigrants, all types of history including everything from music to Civil War, a series of hand-illustrated maps, a list of the best restaurants, bars, shopping and anything to do as well as a series of essays from many big names.
The field guide is great for anyone who lives in Nashville, has just moved to Nashville or is just visiting Nashville for a week. You can purchase the book on Bruce’s website, or at any of the following locations:
