Downtown’s Newest Addition

Downtown will finally have a convention centre that is worth of the Music City.  With funding approved in mid-January construction has begun on the brand new Music City Center!

Plans for the Music City Center call for a brand new 1.2 million square foot building.  Its features will include a 350,000-square-foot exhibit hall acoustically designed to double as a concert hall, more than 50 meeting rooms, two ballrooms and approximately 36 loading docks for the ultimate in flexibility and ease.  In addition, the building will host a “green rooftop” in keeping with the city’s commitment to sustainable development, as well as, amazing views of the city’s skyline.

All and all the new convention center will more than double the downtown meeting and exhibit space available in the current convention center. Scheduled to be completed in 2013; convention planners have already begun making reservations!  Music City Center will play an important role in the continued economic revitalization of downtown, and draw even more business and tourism to the Music City!

Downtown’s newest addition is being constructed on a 16-acre site adjacent to the Sommet Center with borders of Demonbreun on the north, Franklin / Shirley Street on the south, Fifth Avenue on the east, and Eighth Avenue on the west.   Want to follow the construction, or are concerned about how this will affect driving downtown?  You can follow the Music City center on Twitter at http://twitter.com/NashvilleMCC.  Also, learn more about the plan at http://www.nashvillemusiccitycenter.com/index.php.
