Each year April brings the Country Music Marathon to downtown Nashville. This year the marathon is on Saturday, April 28th and is again benefiting a wonderful cause: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tenn.
Registration is still open for the race, so if you haven’t registered yet, hurry up and do it now at a discounted price! Registration for the full marathon costs $120 through April 22 and is $150 at the Health & Fitness Expo, the half marathon costs $115 through the 22nd and is also $150 at the Expo and this year’s mini marathon (2.6 miles) costs $55 through the 22nd and bumps slightly up to $75 for the Expo. The race’s start at Centennial Park and are set to finish at LP Field. They don’t call us the Music City for nothing! As always, the races will conclude with a concern at LP Field. This year’s performers are Rodney Atkins featuring Gloriana.
The Health and Fitness Expo will be at the Nashville Convention Center Thursday and Friday April 26-27. On Thursday, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Here you can register last minute for the mini marathon, half marathon and marathon and visit booths from over 60 exhibitors. Free samples, the latest running gear, health and nutritional information and more will be showcased at the Expo.
The Country Music Marathon benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The hospital is one of the world’s premiere pediatric cancer research centers whose mission is to “find cures for children with cancer and other deadly diseases through research and treatment.” St. Jude, together with its physicians and scientists, has developed treatments that have helped push the overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today.
The hospital costs more than $1.7 million each day to operate which is why public donations and fundraising, like the Country Music Marathon, are invaluable to the hospital. It allows the hospital to continue providing medical attention and research to those children that need it the most. Moreover, no family ever pays St. Jude for anything – from treatment to meals to transportation.
When you run the Country Music Marathon, you can choose to fundraise as a St. Jude Hero. You’ll receive fundraising and training resources and other great incentives to help motivate you to achieve your goals and raise money for this great cause.
