Changes Ahead for 12South Neighborhood

Big changes are ahead this year for the 12South Neighborhood in Nashville.

Not only is a neighborhood staple saying goodbye after a decade of residence in the area, designs for a new multi-use development are underway, a project that would bring residential and retail space to 12 Avenue South.

Rumour’s Wine Bar, which has called the 12South neighborhood home for almost a decade, is closing its doors. The wine bar, owned by Christy Shuff and Jenn McCarthy, was bought-out by the landlord of the building in which it occupied. While the announcement to close doors came as a shock to loyal customers, friends and neighbors, Shuff and McCarthy are not calling this the end of the wine bar. They are currently searching for possible places to relocate.

The buy-out is part of plans for a new multi-use development to go up in 12 South. H.G. Hill Realty, together with Southeast Venture, recently purchased .82 acres of land at 2310 12 Ave. S. It’s in this location that they have plans to build a multi-use development. The development, which will reside next to 12 South Taproom and Grill, will offer 67 luxury apartments and 4,200 square feet of ground-level retail space.

The ground-breaking for construction of the development is currently planned to begin this coming April, with hopes to be ready for occupancy sometime in the spring of 2013.
