Book ‘Em Holiday Party at Parnassus Books

Local Nashville nonprofit Book’em is an organization with a vision that every child in Nashville should be able to experience the joy of owning and reading books. The organization collects and distributes books to children and teens in lower-income families who might otherwise go without their own personal books. It also provides volunteers to read to children at local preschools and elementary schools.

Book’em helps to raise the community’s awareness to the fact that reading is crucial to a child’s early learning. There is a big difference in a child borrowing books from a school or local library and being able to have a small collection of his or her own–and Book’em makes that possible for lower-income children who may not be able to have a personal book collection otherwise.

Each year, Book’em donates nearly 25,000 books to children in Middle Tennessee, a donation made possible solely by the Nashville community supporting them and chipping in books to children in need.

The holiday months have a huge demand for Book’em as the months of November and December usually see the donation of nearly 10,000 books. Consider donating a book or two to Book’em this holiday season, or support Book’em at their Holiday Party & Fundraiser this coming Sunday, December 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the newly-opened Parnassus Books in Green Hills.

The event will offer holiday themed snacks and beverages as well as volunteers available to read to children, the chance to learn more about what Book’em does in the Nashville community, complimentary gift wrapping and the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season and a successful year. Parnassus will be offering 10% of book sales to Book’em during the event and Book’em is encouraging its guests to consider purchasing a book at Parnassus to donate to Book’em while you’re there.

To learn more about Book’em, visit their website at www.bookem-kids.org, and be sure to stop by Parnassus Books (located in the Donut Den/Chipotle shopping area in Green Hills) on Sunday, December 4 from 5-7 p.m. to give back to this wonderful Nashville nonprofit during their Holiday Party.
