12South to Welcome New Restaurants

The 12South Neighborhood is well-known around Nashville for its local and delicious restaurants and coffee shops including Burger Up, Mafiaoza’s, The Frothy Monkey, Portland Brew, 12th South Taproom and Fish & Co. If you’ve taken a walk, bike ride or drive through the area lately, your curiosity may have been perked by the two areas of new construction on 12th South Ave.

This fall, in the location that was formerly Greenlight Market and then LB’s Market House will reopen as Sloco Sandwiches next week. Sloco, a lunchtime-only sandwich shop, will offer a menu with sandwiches produced fully from local or regional products.

Owner and Chef Jeremy Barlow hopes to offer a full meal for around $10, including a sandwich, chips and a drink. The menu will offer simple, tasty sandwiches with beef, pork, chicken and vegetarian options as well as three types of breads, including a gluten-free option. Information will be served with each sandwich about what farm raised the veggies and meat, what the animals were fed and how many miles the food had to travel to reach the customer.

This environmentally-friendly and health conscious Sloco andwich shop is set to open next Tuesday, Oct. 18 so be sure to check them out during your lunch break! For more information, find them on twitter at @slocosammies.

Across the street on the lot that formerly held the car wash, Nashvillians can keep their eyes peeled for the soon-to-come restaurant Urban Grub. With a tag line boasting “Fish Pit and Southern Cantina,” Urban Grub will offer ethnic, healthy, casual pick-up items, according to their Facebook page. Customers can expect to see a menu combining southern traditions with fresh fish and seafood, including fresh chucked oysters, smoked and grilled meats and veggies and cantina style hand-helds.

On the corner of 12th South Ave and Halcyon, Edley’s BBQ will be opening with the promise to be a tribute to all things southern and be a Nashville institution, joining the Nashville tradition of a meat and three with what they claim will be the “best Bar-B-Que on this side of the Mississippi.”

Edley’s will offer each day freshly smoked meats using local White Oak wood; there will only be enough meat smoked for one day, so it’s first come first serve for you BBQ lovers out there! In addition they will prepare eight to ten southern style side dishes (made from scratch!) every day.

For more information about Edley’s, visit their website at www.edleysbbq.com or find them on twitter at @edleysbbq. They currently plan to open sometime next month.
