New Sounds Stadium Location Narrowed Down to Three Potential Sites

A new stadium for the Nashville Sounds is in the works, and last week the Mayor’s task force released a report with three possible locations for the stadium to call home.

The three proposed locations are:

  1. The north Gulch area, just across Charlotte Pike where it intersects with 1th Ave.
  2. The Sulfur Dell site, next to Bicentennial Mall and across from Germantown
  3. East Bank of the Cumberland River, alongside the Titans stadium

The proposed stadium would have seating for 10,000 (as well as club seating, a playground, and increased luxury box amenities) and be ready for use on opening day in 2014, so the timetable is tight. Land acquisition would begin in January 2012 in order for this timeline to be met, which means a decision needs to be made quickly.

Adding the stadium downtown does have its perks. It would add life surrounding basement to the city as well as have the option for more residential units and retail spaces. Currently, Greer Stadium is rather isolated, and having a centrally located stadium would increase tourist flow and build more energy into the city (and help the economy grow along the way).
